Rules for Making The Perfect Cup Of Tea
A few simple habits separate a good cup from a truly remarkable one.
- Always start with fresh, filtered water. Avoid reboiling, as it reduces the oxygen content and leaves your tea tasting flat. Bring water to the right temperature for your tea type before pouring.
- Use one teaspoon of loose leaf tea per cup, and warm your teapot or mug beforehand.
- Steep green and white teas at 70-80 degrees Celsius for two to three minutes to avoid bitterness.
- Black and oolong teas welcome boiling water and a steeping time of three to five minutes.
- Never squeeze the tea bag or press the leaves. Let them release their flavor naturally, then remove them promptly so the brew stays balanced and smooth.
